Galaxy Note 3 N900 Update build N900XXUEBPB1, Not Marshmallow but Still Android 5.0 Lollipop in 2016

Here comes the year 2016, and Samsung has just recently unleashed  another round of update on the Galaxy Note 3 SM-N900 (Exynos) to which has bumped up the build number to N900XXUEBPB1. The update build N900XXUEBPB1 Android 5.0 has recently headed out in Russia alone, but might as well continues to roll out in nearby countries very soon.  This update is still base in Android 5.0 Lollipop and not the long rumoured Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. Yet this device hasn’t even got the Android 5.0.1 and up to 5.1.1 update so far, and might stay in Android 5.0 until it’s software support expires.

In addition, according to our Russian fellas, they claimed that there are no any other adverse effect nor any new features along with it. Though the Smart Manager seems has worked better but there is the unloading issues running in the background were still present. While some few folks also claimed that it has improved the device performance.  Below are the technical details of the Update build N900XXUEBPB1.

Device Name: Samsung Galaxy Note 3
Model number: SM-N9005
Android version: 5.0
Baseband version: N900XXUEBNL6
Kernel version: 3.4.0–5764310
Build number: LRX21V.N900XXUEBPB1
AP: N900XXUEBPB1
CSC: N900SEREBPA1
CP: N900XXUEBNL6

This is much likely the first build we have spotted  for the year 2016, but it’s just a security patch update for the Android OS Security Platform. The “kernel” and “baseband” version has stayed the same to the previous released build N900XXUEBOK2. This update size weighs at around 90 MB in file size, so it is quite clear that only few modifications accompanied with it.

Important Note Before Performing Software Update

According to Samsung you should prepare the following things before performing the software update. I will also add some useful insights why you should follow this procedures.

  • You should make sure your battery is fully charged before performing the software update. Do not also remove the battery during the software update is in progress. A power failures may cause damaged to your device that might results as we so-called   “soft-bricks”.  If this happens your device may just stuck on Samsung logo or welcome screen and can’t reboot normally.
  • You should back-up your important files, including contacts, emails, messages, photos, videos, apps and other stuff. Like I said while during software update process is interrupted there is a possibility that your data stored from your device internal SD card may lose or deleted when a sudden unexpected failure happens and it forces you to perform a factory.
  • Your device should not be modified or rooted, there is a certain circumstances that a modified and rooted Samsung Galaxy Note 3 may not accept any official software update anymore or it can accept an update but it might harm your device once the update has made.  Learn about the new Samsung KNOX security suite. Most known error that says ‘firmware upgrade encountered an issue, please select recovery mode in kies and try again‘ you should try to avoid that from happening.

Update to 5.0 Lollipop via Over-The-Air (OTA)

There are two types you can update your Samsung Galaxy Note 3, the first method is Firmware Update through over the air or called as OTA update, which usually a notification message will directly sent to you and saying that there is a new update available for download. You can also tap on your Galaxy Note 3 Settings > General tab, scroll to and tap System Update. It will automatically tells you that a new update is available or your software is up to date when there is none yet. You can simply tap the “Start” button when you want to perform an update or  “Postpone” if you want to install later.

Update to 5.0 Lollipop via Kies

The second method is a firmware update through Samsung Kies. You may head-over to your  local Samsung support page from where you can download Samsung Kies from there, and install it in your Windows or Mac computer.

Choose the new Kies 3 which supports the Galaxy Note 3 and other Samsung devices running with 4.4.2 and 5.0 Lollipop updates.  Once you installed Kies 3, simply connect your Galaxy Note 3 into your computer using the USB data cable. Lastly, run Kies and follow the on-screen Kies software update instructions to install the update.
