Important Note Before Performing Software Update

According to Samsung you should prepare the following things before performing the software update. I will also add some useful insights why you should follow this procedures.

  • You should make sure your battery is fully charged before performing the software update. Do not also remove the battery during the software update is in progress. A power failures may cause damaged to your device that might results as we so-called   “soft-bricks”.  If this happens your device may just stuck on Samsung logo or welcome screen and can’t reboot normally.
  • You should back-up your important files, including contacts, emails, messages, photos, videos, apps and other stuff. Like I said while during software update process is interrupted there is a possibility that your data stored from your device internal SD card may lose or deleted when a sudden unexpected failure happens and it forces you to perform a factory.
  • Your device should not been modified or rooted, there is a certain circumstances that a modified and rooted Samsung Galaxy Note 3 may not accept any official software update anymore or it can accept an update but it might harm your device once the update has made.  Learn about the new Samsung KNOX security suite. Most known error that says ‘firmware upgrade encountered an issue, please select recovery mode in kies and try again‘ you should try to avoid that from happening.

Just do share to us how’s your the N900VVRUCNC44.4.2 update perform on your Verizon Galaxy Note 3. You may check everything, from network to data connectivity, speed, smoothness and don’t forget about the battery life performance.

  1. updated the morning of 5/18/14 and hate it!

    1. call audio will randomly switch itself from BT to speaker for no reason
    2. removed color icons from status bar (not a big deal but i dont like the all white)
    3. replaced flashing status bar when in call to a solid ugly green
    4. BIG ISSUE any decent graphic game is slow and choppy now the phone lags if you swipe screen with a swipe effect and switching between apps takes 2x longer now.

and thats just what ive seen in the 9 hours ive used the phone since the update.
ive rebooted the phone 5 times both soft and hard reboot and called Verizon Tech Support and there best answer (honestly the only answer they ever give for any issue ive called for) was to factory reset the phone. it seems factory reset is Verizon’s way of saying “hey we dont care about your problems i dont want to search a solution so just erase everything on the phone. oh you have important things on there? save it to a cloud! it takes to long to redownload all your stuff? you have 4G LTE its lightning fast! you only have a 2 GB data plan? ok i just changed it to 50 GB your new bill is $400 thank you have a nice day!”

i loved the phone im looking for a way to rollback the update. great phone and of course Verizon tries to ruin older phones to get us to upgrade to newer phones and keep us locked in on contracts. “oh your eligible for an upgrade! that will be $50” or “oh your not eligible for an upgrade yet but you can get a new phone on our new rip off plan we like to call The Edge Program where we just make you pay the retail price of the phone and you can change phones whenever you want as long as you pay half the price of the phone trading in which takes 2 years and cost twice as much as a 2 yr upgrade price! its great for us and f up for you!”

    1. Same thing here. It is terrible. My note 3 was an amazingly fast phone, and now I cannot even swipe without lag. I am currently on hold, but I have tried factory reset and it will not revert the baseband version.

Please let me know if you find a solution. This is incredibly frustrating.

  2. My OTC update notice came on Friday 5/16 and I proceeded as well (I am on Verizon). Since then, I have had intermittent problems sending text messages (possibly receiving as well). Both are delayed, not always though and when sending I get a spinning circle below the message instead of the time stamp. I never had any issues prior to the upgrade, and have no idea how to fix. Yesterday, I got no carrier service a few times in places I never had that before, and my alarm failed to go off this morning (first time that ever did not work). The phone has been sluggish, and terrible on battery life ever since the upgrade as well. All of this has been terribly frustrating, and I do not know how to fix. Not at all a fan of the update and hate the phone now, help!!!

  3. I agree with all the above complaints and would do anything to go back to the previous firmware version. It is 100% better than the new firmware. I have asked how to do this on Version’s site ( just today) but am still awaiting for a response.

  4. I upgraded my Verizon note 3 to Kitkat. I don’t know about all these issues, but my phone does not work in areas where it worked before kitkat. I cannot make or receive calls in these areas. VERY FRUSTRATING. I hate calling Verizon and going through all this. I just want it fixed. Based on what we pay monthly I don’t think I am asking too much. Please let me know how to fix my phone so it works, at least as well as it did before this stupid upgrade at above email or 404-936-6464. Thank you. Randy Todd

    1. It’s because Microsoft’s Windows and Samsung aren’t friends. There is a workaround for that look for SD card fix.
